Art

At Prendergast School, we value Art a as an important part of students’ entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Art provides students with the opportunities to develop and extend skills and an opportunity to express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas.

Through the study of Art we aim to develop creatively confident artists through a range of critical, contextual and practical experiences that underpin their skills with knowledge.

Our curriculum reflects our diverse community through an inclusive approach to content, responding to current affairs and independent interests.

Our Art curriculum aims to promote curiosity and critical engagement by challenging preconceptions about what art can be and thus developing oracy through the use of subject specific vocabulary, discussion and debate on key issues. Students will build understanding of the formal qualities of Art, Craft and Design thus giving students the tools and confidence to express their ideas imaginatively and effectively.

Students will build resilience through trial and error, failure and success and for the students to be able to review and reflect thoughtfully and with insight about their work. They will be able to explore ideas and experiment with a wide range of media and processes to meaningfully realise their intentions.
