Visitor from the Bank of England
On Tuesday, 27th November, the Computer Science department invited a special guest from the Bank of England to address year 10 students during their assembly. Shaunte Wilson, who joined the Bank of England in 2017 as an apprentice, now works within the Technology Department of the Bank of England.
The Bank of England is seen as an essential service comparable to the electric or water services. Vast sums of money move through the bank’s system in a day. Shaunte works within the technology department, one of the largest departments in the bank.
The students were told of some of the career opportunities available at the bank. Often graduates join from university, but Shaunte joined the bank straight after sixth form into the bank’s apprenticeship programme. The apprenticeship programme provides many opportunities for training and development and students were fascinated to hear about another STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) related career opportunity.
