Congratulations to our fencing champion, Alice King
Congratulations to Alice King in Year 8 who attended the Challenge Wratislavia fencing competition in Poland. There were 151 competitors in the U13 category this year, approximately the same as last year where Alice finished 121. A very large number of the competitors are from Poland, Russia, Czech Republic and Ukraine. This year Alice won all of her preliminary matches which meant that at the end of the preliminary round she was seeded 9th out of 151 and was given a 'bye' into the round of 64. finished 36th, a personal best for this competition, best result for her team, 5th ranked British fencer out of 30 competing.
Alice later went to Verona for the Junior & Cadet Fencing World Championships where she was working for the FIE on their athlete support programme on the 'Donate Your Fencing Gear!' stand which collects donations for poor countries to provide fencing kit to underprivileged children. Alice was presented with a €200 contribution to her personal equipment fund by the CEO of the International Fencing Federation and received a certificate from the FIE for her work.
